Task 3: Brief and Storyboard

'Disconnected' - Brief
Scene 1
To start of the music video it will be Jazz Morley playing the piano, this will introduce her as the artist. The story line will be linear and will be multi strand, it will be in the point of view of Jazz and her brother. The shot will be a medium shot and will feature her and half of the grand piano.

Scene 2
Jazz's brother standing still facing the camera, he is stood in the middle of a battlefield. This introduces him as a soldier and that he is fighting in the war. In the background gun fire will be going off and explosions will be going off. It will be a medium shot focusing on his face.

Scene 3
The screen will be split screen. One half will be Jazz playing the piano like in scene one but at a high angle. The second half will be Jazz's brother saluting towards the camera, again the background will be the same as scene two.

Scene 4
Split scene again, in one half it will be Jazz's brother jumping from a explosion in slow motion and in the other half it will be a close up on her face with a tear slowly crawling down her face.

Scene 5
Split scene again, he will be getting dragged away by his fellow soldier (medium shot) it will be in slow motion for full effect and to make it dramatic. The other half of the scene will be a close up on a tear belonging to Jazz, it will be a shot of the tear hitting the ground as well. This will also be in slow motion as well.

Scene 6
This scene will be the camera slowing zooming out of a Great Britain flag revealing it being laid on a coffin. This suggests that her brother died in the war. This will be a slow zoom and does a bird eyes view of the coffin, family, friends and soldiers.

Assignment 2: Task 2: Visualization

"Disconnected" by Jazz Morley

If I was to direct a music video for Jazz Morley I would make it a performance/narrative video because the song is about her brother going to fight in Afghanistan and how she feels about it. The location I would like to use would be a battlefield in a large desert or in a ruined village similar to ones in Afghanistan. The reason I would want that location cause it relates to reason why she wrote the song. Like I said I would it a performance/narrative, the narrative would be a actor acting as a soldier showing how he misses his sister and family, one of the scenes would be him sleeping in his tent looking at a picture of his family. The performance would be obviously be Jazz playing the piano while singing her song.
At the end of the music video I think slow motion explosion would make it dramatic and it could leave it on a cliffhanger if his brother is dead or not to make the music video's ending more interesting.
I would want the performance in black and white, this effect makes the image look more sad and makes it emotional.

Assignment 2: Task 1 Initial Listen

'Disconnected' Jazz Morley
What sort of mood and tone is conveyed?
This song has a piano playing throughout the song at a slow pace, this creates the emotion of sadness. Often piano is used for slow acoustic song and they normally make a song seem sad and emotional, The song is about her brother going to Afghanistan and it make you feel how she feels it need to be slow paced and to focus on her voice so you can hear the lyrics.

Does it sound similar to anything else you have heard?
Yes, it was similar to the acoustic artist Sarah Mclachlan (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2LuGzwNy2ws&ob=av2n). She also plays the piano and sings about her feelings to create an emotional song. Also quite similar to Ellie Goulding (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D9AFMVMl9qE) for the same reasons as Sarah.

What genre would you describe the track as?
I would describe it as Acoustic Soul/ Alternative.

Sound Analysis Powerpoint Evaluation.

In this unit we analyzed sound from the film 'Space Jam'. The scene we used was the second half of the main basketball match, I felt our presentation went well and that it contained the basics of what was required. If I could change one thing I would add a another slide or a few more on how the sound created the atmosphere of the game and how the sound created the mood for the scene. We also needed to find out the name of the song which was used, this would of raised our grade to a merit. During creating our powerpoint I feel we used the glossary to help us create our slides and helped us decide what to say while presenting it. with out the glossary we couldn't define our key terms, I think we could of used it a little more though. I learnt the key terms for sound being used in film and how to successfully analysis a video clip. I also learnt how much sound is used in film production which is loads.

Mood and Tone in 'The Scientist'

This song to me is saying that he screwed up. He wants to be able to explain what he did with science and reasoning, but he just can't, because love doesn't work like that. The lyrics 'come back and haunt me' tells us that the person is dead or that the relationship has been long lost.
In the video, its playing in reverse and it reveals at the end that he was involved in a car crash with his loved one. He is obviously upset about his loss and its almost like he is trying to walk it off.
I thought the images match and complement the music well, the people who made the video obviously put the lyrics into consideration. 'Oh take me back to the start' tells us he wants to go back to the start of their relationship and this was probably how they came up with the idea of the music video with the reverse idea.
